Institut de Turisme
The Institute of Tourism is an autonomous body with an economic nature, a public legal personality and full powers, constituted under the Law governing Local Government to fulfil its aims.
Why was the Institute created?
In order to make the most of the city’s two World Heritage Declarations and to promote tourism in the city of Elx.
Objectives
To develop quality tourism by increasing the attractiveness of the city and its borough based on Elx’s main tourist products:
- Cultural and urban tourism
- To a lesser extent, sea, sun and sand tourism
- Ecotourism
Strategic Objective
To develop quality tourism by increasing the attractiveness of the city.
Tourism Action Plan
This is a series of actions designed to achieve our strategic objective. The actions revolve around 8 strategic lines:
To define and design tourist products based on our natural spaces, the coast and the city itself.
To create an individual, attractive tourist-focused image of Elx.
To create and/or improve tourist infrastructure.
To apply a town-planning model that will facilitate the growth of the tourist sector.
To implant the concept of quality in the tourist sector.
To raise our citizens’ awareness of the importance of tourism as a motor for local growth.
To introduce a large element of tourism-orientation into the management of businesses related to the sector and into the management of Elx Town Hall itself.
To promote the capture of public and private investment for the development of the local tourism sector.
The Institute’s activities will be directed towards achieving the following aims:
- Promoting activities aimed at increasing tourist demand within the city.
- Managing, promoting and undertaking all of those popular activities that can help to increase both the quantity and quality of Elx’s tourist offer.
- Promoting Elx’s active presence in the tourism market, while aiming to coordinate all those sectors with an interest in the development of tourism.
- Facilitating, helping and creating the conditions necessary in order to adapt infrastructures and services to tourism and also supporting and reinforcing private sector initiatives.
- Facilitating and promoting national and international conventions, meetings and their related activities within the city of Elx.
- Enhancing the tourist sector in aspects related to accommodation, hospitality, and travel agencies as well as cultural and leisure activities.
- Studying the city’s tourism-related problems and adopting or suggesting those measures that it considers most relevant in order to solve them.
- Producing the awareness-raising materials and publicity as well as generating an image in order to make Elx’s resources better-known and thus attract more visitors.
- Collaborating with other public or private bodies to promote Elx in order to attract more visitors.
- Promoting, and should it be the case, participating in agreements and joint action plans with other public or private bodies in order to finance tourism promotion campaigns.
- Contributing to the conservation of the city’s natural resources and its socio-cultural values.
- Studying and analysing the city’s situation with regard to tourism, making the information gathered available to the sector.
- Coordinating, strengthening and supporting all of those sectors interested in promoting tourism.
- Managing, on behalf of the city, facilities and installations of tourist interest, such as the municipal campsite.
- Any other action that, falling within the purview of these Statutes, and in line with the Institute’s founding principles, the Institute’s Board of Governors decides to pursue.
