From Ilici de to Elx, 2500 years of the city’s history
A great exhibition will be held from the 18th May to the 1st November 2006 on the occasion for the opening of the Elx Archeaological and History Museum (MAHE on the original). It will be presided by the possible home return journey of the “Dama d’Elx, an Iberian masterpiece sculpture, from the 4th C.B.C, found in Elx in 1897 anc currently in the Madrid National Archaeological Museum. This event will be backed up by other cutural and social participation activities, in which both the people of Elx and visitors will be called to the exhibition and the stay of the “Dama d’Elx” in its home town.
The possible presence of the “Dama d’Elx”, during 2006, united to the opening of the Elx Archaeological and History Museum, is the perfect occasion to give a quality leap in the city’s tourist promotion. This will enable us to position Elx as a “first class tourist destination of cultural interest “linking it to the UNESCO declarations of the Elx Palm Groves (Palmerar d’Elx) and the Elx Mystery Play (Misteri d’Elx) as World Heritage.
What is from Ilici to Elx all about?
The main aim of this great exhibition is to offer both the citizens of Elx and our visitors a wide outlook on Elx, its past, present and future.
The opening of the Elx Arcchaeological and History Museum, having its main attraction with the presence of the original “Dama d’Elx” (Lady of Elx), will be the central highspot. In this exhibition you will be able to walk through the most outstanding aspects of the civilisations that passed through Elx and the cultural wealth and legacy they left us, without forgetting the most important events in our history.
The exhibition will be held in several sees, linked to each other by a signalled urban route that will invite you to know the city at the same time. The different exhibitions and events will be the occasion to know such unique aspects of the city’s culture and traditions as the Elx Palm Forest and the Elx Mystery Play (Misteri d’Elx), both declared World Heritage, including other artistic of economic happenings. Furthermore, there will be activities with the participation of school children, popular games, concerts, festivals, congresses, seminaries and conferences.
From Ilici to Elx will serve the citizens of Elx to reach a wider knowledge of their history and culture, the leading stars in this event.
