This park is the fruit of the Town Hall’s policy of recovering the palm plantations as public spaces. In the very heart of the city, located between Candalix, Nuestra Señora de la Cabeza and Luis Gonzaga Llorente streets, Jaume I Park has sprung from the restoration of the Hort del Carme and Hort d’Ullets plantations.

These plantations, which were in a state of neglect, were replanted with numerous date palms, fruit trees and other ornamental trees. For ground cover, native species such as alfalfa and sorrel were used.

Its most characteristic element is a space in the form of a chess board composed of ponds and flower beds, bordered by red and black Alicante marble. In the central square is the bust of King Jaume I set upon a base bearing the Crown of Aragon’s coat of arms.
